    some more thoughts/questions
    On the detailed reread -

1.That scene in the cave is going to be a cracker when the film comes round. It will be amazing if they even manage to get it a 12A cert.

    2. More evidence for Snape being on the side of light: a)when Harry's chasing him towards the gates of Hogwarts he never actually casts a single spell in Harry's direction. Yes, he parries harry's spells, and he sneers and taunts him, but that's all. Even when harry calls him coward and it's clearly the worst thing Harry could have said, he only slashes the air and Harry feels 'a white-hot, whiplike something hit him across the face'. OK, not pleasant for harry, but nowhere near an Unforgivable Curse.
    b) Hagrid doesn't believe Snape can have deserted DD, and Hagrid is usually in on things.

3.Who is the fourth Death Eater on top of the tower? We get Amycus, Alecto (incidentally, the name of the Fury who causes all the trouble in Aeneid 8-12) and Greyback, but the fourth isn't named as far as I can see. Who is he? And are Amycus and Alecto a pair we know by surname? And why doesn't JKR name the fourth one?

    4. Why does Amycus use 'yeh' for 'you'? We've never seen anyone but Hagrid do this. Is it a hint that he's some sort of relation of Hagrid's?

    5. Professor Trelawney was absolutely right about her prediction about the tower (even the crucial chapter-heading is 'The Lightning-Struck Tower'). So is she in fact more reliable than we've been led to believe?

    Hmmmmmm.......

    shattering thought about bk 7
I have just had a pretty shattering thought, which goes, if one of the Horcruxes is something belonging to Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, why not Luna or Neville? After all, if VM can put a bit of his soul in Nagini, why not go a bit further and use a human being? If it were Neville, this would explain why Neville's had a memory charm put on him (his OTT forgetfulness indicates this), and also would indicate that VM had decided to cover all the options as to whether the Chosen One was Harry or Neville. If it were Luna, it would explain her strange other-worldliness, and would also be neat in a literary way as I am convinced Harry has to go through the veil to get Sirius in 7, and Luna was the one who seemed to know what was going on with the veil and would be his obvious companion. The underworld is a dangerous place and if Harry has to kill one of his best friends, what better place for it to happen? Particularly as Luna doesn't seem all that wedded to real life in any case and might actually acquiesce. I also think the business of DD begging Harry to kill him in HBP might be a sort of rehearsal for this final ordeal - Harry couldn't do it this time but he may have to when it comes to destroying a Horcrux, no matter what or who is housing it.
